This summer Los Angeles based artist KOKO will present his latest art collection 'In Shadow,' a series of original oil paintings and sculptures. This exhibition coincides with the opening of the opera, Don Giovanni at the Walt Disney Concert Hall by the LA Philharmonic. KOKO's collection of oil paintings were inspired by the opera as well as his background in classical music. This exhibition, 'In Shadow' is based on a unique painting technique developed by KOKO for this collection. Sculptures were created from scenes of the opera and projected with light to create shadows that were painted on canvas. The paintings create such a powerful sense of movement with a sensible use of vibrant colors. At this exhibition, viewers will find a connection with KOKO's paintings and be part of a visual exploration of the famous opera Don Giovanni.
The paintings are created as visual "sets" and narratives from the opera. This formal variation is a direct result of this unique technique of painting "shadows."
KOKO brings a fresh perspective to painting with his academic background in Architecture. He holds a Master's Degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture. Since his return from New York in 2007, he has worked as an Architectural Designer for world renowned architect Frank Gehry.
'In Shadow' will open on June 1st from 6-10pm at Stephanie's Art Gallery in La Canada.
First two days KOKO will be available for catalog signing.
